SEVENTEEN CATHOLICS RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION AT ST. JOSEPH PARISH

On Sunday 25th November our Parish welcomed 17 of her members into their next level of growth as Catholics.

During the last two years, the Chatechists in the Parish have been busy with their noble work of teaching and mentoring the children and some elder members who had not received their Sacrament of Holy Communion; and it was a really great day not only for them but the whole congregation who were witnesses of this important occasion.

Reflection on the Solemnity of Christ the King

by Fr Sandile Mswane

Last Sunday in Ordinary time, year B
Christ the King, Solemnity

The celebration of the feast Christ our universal king confirms what is narrated by the prophet Isaiah (9:1-7), and the evangelists in the nativity stories of our Lord where we heard that a king to rule over Israel was born. Born in the royal line of King David. When this son to be king was born, the whole world was shaken. Wise men from the east came to see him, shepherds were told of his story. King Herod heard of the news which he did not receive with delight. He felt intimidated, he sensed the arrival of a rival. Continue reading “Reflection on the Solemnity of Christ the King”

Prophetic duty as God’s ambassadors

by Council of Swaziland Churches

Last 14 November 2018, the Council of Swaziland Churches called for a press conference at their premises at the Mandlenkosi Ecumenical House (Manzini).

The three page statement – which can be fully read below this introduction – deals with national issues and events like:

  • the double celebrations held this year
  • the labour unrest
  • the elections
  • the situation of the economy of the country
While indicating reasons for celebrate, the Council also raises many concerns regarding the present situation of the country as they deeply affect the life of the people denying them the fullness of life Christ promised to all.

Below is the full text of the press statement Continue reading “Prophetic duty as God’s ambassadors”

Reflection for the thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary time – Year B

by Fr Sandile Mswane

The pilgrim church here on earth awaits the second coming of its Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. For He has promised that He will come again (Mark 13: 26) to gather His faithful to Himself, take them to His Fathers kingdom. Without any doubt we know that Jesus will come back because God is always faithful to His word. What He says He will do He does it. He never breaks His promises. He is not like us as we never stick to what we have said. It is the goal of every Christian, to be in heaven (not in hell of course) with God as we have been promised that we shall see Him as He really is. The pilgrim church is moving very steadily but it is sure that it will reach where it is going. Some have reached as we also talk of the church in heaven our saints. November 2018: In the Service of Peace

Riot Police Watching the Protester in Thailand.

by Fr Chris Chatteris SJ

Pope’s Prayer Intention, November 2018.

In the Service of Peace. That the language of love and dialogue may always prevail over the language of conflict.

This is an intention well-suited to the age of Twitter and other forms of social media. There seems to be evidence that these new technologies somehow encourage people to verbalise their coarser, less worthy thoughts, often with disastrous consequences for relationships. Maybe it’s because we haven’t got used to them yet. We haven’t developed ways to bite our tongues, as it were, when we are on our devices. Hence, the language of conflict can get out there more easily and be widely disseminated in viral fashion. Careers can end; people can self-destruct; relationships can collapse because of a few words which are harsh or vulgar or racist and which were tweeted in a moment of loss of self-control. One of our fathers passes on

The late Father Mjengu (L) with Father Wanda (R)

by Maduduza Zwane

The St Joseph’s Sodality in the Diocese of Manzini in Swaziland is deeply saddened by the news of the passing-on to Eternal life of Father Vitus Mjengu. A beautiful soul, full of love and fatih, ascended to Heaven on the morning of the 6th November 2018. Nothing is more painful in life as the separation of a jewel. Fr. V. Mjengu turned his every thought into purposeful action in his own life that was dedicated totally to the service of God. He was the Lord’s willing instrument who had the strength and zealous commitment to carry out his vocation as a priest, embracing the cross of pain, failure and disrepute unreservedly in the knowledge that he would succeed in establishing families that were firmly rooted in true faith and totally dedicated to doing God’s will. WFS – Launching the year of the Social Catholic Teaching

by Bp Jose Luis

Last November 2018 I launched a three-year program in our diocese. I called it: WFS. It stands for Word Faith and Social. I felt there was not much creativity in the name but at least it would give a clear idea of what I had in mind.

As I shared in the blog at that time (link) being installed as Bishop of Manzini, I shared on three things Catholics should be recognised for:
