Christ the King Youth visits the elderly

by Maduduza Zwane

If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me – LK9:23

Christ the King Parish youth last Saturday visited two elderly people with the symbols of the Pilgrimage of the Cross. This two old ladies belong to the sodalities of St Anne & Sacred Heart and can no longer go to church due to old age.

Young people from Christ the King prayed by reciting the rosary and the Litany of the Sacred Heart together with these bogogo. Information gathered from CTK is that the bogogo were very grateful of the visit.

Reflection on the Eleventh Sunday Ordinary Time

by Fr Dumisani Mazibuko OSM

From the little seed to the large Tree

One thing is clear, growth is gradual and not instantaneous. Growth needs patience, determination and time. From the little seed to the large tree is the theme of this Sunday’s readings. Spiritual growth is a process. The first step is openness to growth. Indeed from the very beginning God created us so that we may grow not only spiritually but holistically. How best can we today best can we as Church be catalyst to the growth of the God’s Kingdom?. How can the Church support the growth of the Kingdom in areas where it seem to diminish? With the seed-God’s word implanted in us, how can we allow it to grow within us? I believe the growth of God’s Kingdom is being placed in our hands as we listen to God’s word . are we going to allow it to spread and grow within us? The fear to ask “why”

by Bishop Jose Luis IMC

During May I was asked to address members of the “Swaziland Council of Catholic Women” (SCCW) on “The Spiritual and Social approaches of the church to the suffering of the world”.

Preparing for the talk I remembered a story Bishop Barry Wood OMI used to tell us. Barry was the auxiliary bishop of Durban and a good friend. He died a year ago. We used to sit down next to each other at the bishops’ meeting.

Reflection on the Tenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

by Fr Dumisani Mazibuko OSM

The Mission of Jesus was to defeat the devil once and for all. God the Father sent Jesus to the world to reconcile man with God by defeating the evil one. And so in the readings we see good overcoming evil even in difficult circumstances, good prevails. Indeed the power and goodness of Jesus surpasses the evil one. In the readings we see that what the devil presents us with is apparent good. And this apparent good is attractive but only for a moment for it brings shame and loneliness. We also see the consequences of evil and these are pain, enmity and death. But in all these, one born out of man will conquer the evil, Jesus is his name. Jesus gathers around him a new family, who nourish themselves with his word and presence and eureka, the evil one is conquered. Let us give thanks to God for sending us His Son through Mary our Mother so that we can achieve our full potential by conquering the evil one. June 2018: Social Networks

by Fr Chris Chatteris SJ

Pope’s Intention, June 2018.

Social Networks. That social networks may work towards that inclusiveness which respects others for their differences.

No is not Enough, is the arresting title of Naomi Klein’s latest book. She is often considered to be a hopelessly impractical, radical left-wing social commentator and feminist, eco-warrior. Her book is a response to the election of Donald Trump and it is a sustained attack on pretty well all he stands for.

So why is ‘no’ not enough? Well, Klein argues that the fact that a political party is criticised or even voted out of office is not good enough unless the opposition have a viable alternative political and social programme ready with which to replace the incumbent’s. A ‘no’ requires that a ‘yes’ is ready and waiting in the wings. Continue reading “June 2018: Social Networks”

Not the “bushfire” but the one of the Holy Spirit!

By Bishop Jose Luis IMC

Last December I wrote to the priests, religious sisters and parish pastoral councils letting them know the idea of launching the “Sodality of St Cecilia” in the diocese of Manzini. I knew them from the time I served in Daveyton in the (now) archdiocese of Johannesburg. The decision was part of the steps we are taking to improve our liturgies.

The sodality of St Cecilia commended by the church is an association of choristers, men and women, who ensure the proper performance in the celebration of the sacraments and encourage the active participation of the faithful in the singing of sacred music in the liturgy” (from their constitution)
